Disclaimer: I received a box of Vega Protein Packets for free in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own, and no other compensation was provided.

I’ve known of Vega for a few years, but have never had the opportunity to try it before! When the opportunity to review it came up, I was on it immediately, choosing the Vega Protein Performance Powder (the recover one). One of my goals for this summer has been to be better about consuming protein to help me recovery immediately after working out. Previously it may have been up to 2-3 hours after exercising before I ate protein- not ideal for trying to increase the amount of exercise I was doing in training!

I was so excited to open the box and find that they had sent a box of packets in Vanilla! It’s also a plant-based protein, which I’d never tried before!

One other disclaimer when it comes to me using protein powders (there is one other one that I like and use regularly in chocolate)- I tend to use only half of the recommended amount. Any more than that and it tastes too thick and disgusting to me- the same was true with the Vega (plus it extends your protein powder!).

I first tried the protein powder at 1 packet in 16 ounces of water. The vanilla powder smelled almost like cake batter, and I was really excited to try it. It wasn’t that it was bad, but I knew it was too much powder in the water for me. From there on out I used half a packet of powder in 16 ounces of water or almond milk, and that tasted much better! There was no chalky texture or weird after taste at all!

I also used the protein powder in my morning oatmeal. I kept a packet open on my counter, and added it to my blueberry and almond milk oatmeal in the mornings, and it was delicious!

I think that very often with protein powder, it takes a few times of drinking it to really adapt to the taste and to figure out the best way to personally drink it (powder to liquid ratio, powder in water vs. in a smoothie, etc…), so I tell people to try it a few times before really deciding if they like it. Vega is a definite win in my book! It’s tasty, doesn’t make me feel sick afterwards, is lactose free (obviously a huge plus for me), and is packed with all sorts of good things to help aid recovery!

This is a product that was on my “to try” list, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to try it out before taking the plunge. This was a product I really liked, and plan to make part of my training from now on as I try to fuel my better.

Now it’s your turn to share! What are some of your favorite ways to “fuel your better” after exercising?

  1. I was just talking about protein powders this morning. I’ve never tried any but a lot of the people at my gym do them immediately after our workouts.

  2. It’s been my goal this year to consume more protein after working out, and I really think it’s making a difference. It’s worth a try!
