Eh. It was a week. This wasn’t my best week for cross training, mostly due to being at work early every day and having lots of activities to do after work. I tried to make it work as best as I could though. Just like a few weeks ago, I switched my long run this week from Saturday to Sunday, so on my weekly mileage it looks like I didn’t do a long run this week. I’m watching the live footage of the Chicago Marathon right now and getting motivated for my own long run. Congratulations to everyone who ran in Chicago today! Here’s what my week looked like:
Total Miles: 16.83 mile walk + 1.12 mile run= 17.95 miles
Between my brother’s soccer game, a lecture I gave outside of work time, unexpectedly picking a brother up from the airport, and another brother unexpectedly getting a concussion, it was a crazy week. The thing with exercise is that while it’s important to get it done, we also need to be flexible. Things pop up in life that we don’t plan for, and weeks get busy. When it happens, do what you can’t but don’t stress yourself out. It will be ok. I chose to do what I could and walk. And it was great!
Now it’s your turn to share! Did you run, spectate, or follow online the Chicago Marathon? How do you remain flexible when something changes in your schedule?
I think being flexible is one of the toughest things for me to learn!!!! I like to stick to what I kno and what makes me most comfortable! Trying to work on that!! Happy Sunday! Spa <3
I’ve been following a couple ChiMarathon runners via Twitter. Got concerned when there hadn’t been an update around the time they should of been at 10k mark. Finally figured out when it came an hour later that, duh…Chicago is on Central time and an hour behind Indiana. The flexibility part tends to be that I don’t run as often as I should… Sometimes I am able to fit in little 15-20 walks on lunch at work.
I’ve been TOO flexible with my training recently, which equals not doing enough runs! I feel pretty good during the runs I’m doing, so I’m not sure why it’s been so hard to commit… although this is a super busy time of the year!
